December Fifth

Charlie couldn’t stand how awkward it was during the drive to her brother’s apartment. She wanted to say something, anything, but every time she opened her mouth, nothing came out. It was maddening. When they finally arrived at Nic’s flat, she breathed out a sigh of relief that everyone in the car heard. Feeling her cheeks heat up as both Eri and Nic turned to look at her, she simply smiled sheepishly before quickly climbing out of the car and rushing towards the trunk. It seemed like she was eager to get her stuff, but this was far from the truth. Charlie just wanted to get out of that car as soon as possible.

“Charlie, I have to head to work in a little while, so we won’t be able to spend much time together today. However, Eri will keep be keeping you company, so you don’t have to worry about becoming bored and lonely,” Nic told her on the journey up to his second floor apartment and all Charlie could do was pale, wanting to beg him to stay home from work because she didn’t know how’d she handle being with Eri without her brother present.

“That’s fine, Nic. I’m sure Eri will be fine company,” she murmured, trying to show that she was happy with the idea and not panicking as she was doing on the inside. Smiling at her brother and trying to keep her gaze from drifting over towards Eri, she made a beeline for the guest room, placing one of her suitcases on the bed as she waited for her brother to bring the other ones to her. “Are you leaving now?” she asked once Nic appeared at the doorway, trying to hide her grimace when he said he’d only have enough time to help her unpack.

“You two have fun. I’ll try to get back as early as I can,” Nic announced once he was done helping his sister unload her suitcases and before Charlie even had a chance to say goodbye, he was gone and she was left alone in the apartment with Eri, who still had yet to come into the guest room.

Charlie really hoped her brother came back soon.

He had a bad feeling about this the second he left his flat, but he kept going despite the little voice in the back of his head telling him to turn around and go back. Ryan and him had kept up a sort of flirting game for the past few months, but there was a point when the playful flirting turned into something more than he could handle. Real feelings started to become involved and Cameron had to make sure he pulled away as fast as he could because the last thing he wanted was to become involved with Ryan. The two still did remain friends, however, and the only difference was he kept shooting down Ryan’s advances.

There was still time to turn back. He wasn’t even outside yet, but he had promised Ryan he’d meet him there and what possible excuse could he give-

“Oi Cam!”

Gasping in surprise, Cam whirled around; blinking in surprise when he found Ryan standing at the bottom of his steps and the first thing he felt was slight annoyance because he was supposed to have met him at the café. “I thought we were going to meet at the café- not at my flat.”

“I know, but I thought I’d surprise you.” Ryan said with a cheesy grin.

“Yes, but we had an arrangement already!” Cam snapped, puffing his cheeks out in frustration as he made his way down the steps while also glaring at Ryan.

“I’m sorry. Next time I’ll make sure to keep to our arrangements.”

“All right- wait what other arrangements?! Ryan!” Cam cried out to his retreating figure, a voice in the back of his mind telling him that this had, indeed, been a bad idea.

“So, how was school?” Andie asked, glancing over at his daughter who had her chin resting on her propped up elbow, picking at her food with a very bored expression on her face.

“It was fine,” she responded dryly, picking at her food some more before she decided to take a bite. After Frankie had stormed to her room he had called the school and thankfully had managed to get the headmaster to refrain from suspending her. However, Frankie seemed less than thrilled with this news which obviously meant she had purposely left school because she wanted to get suspended.

“You're not going to tell me why you skipped?”

“No, thanks. I’d rather keep it to myself.”

“Frankie… I really would like to know why you skipped school today.”

“Why? It was one class I skipped and only like half of it, Dad! Why does it bloody matter?”

“Because I’m your father and I have a right to know why you decided to act recklessly and skip class!"

“No, you don’t have a right to know! It’s my life- not yours!”

Sighing when Frankie stormed out of the dining room and upstairs to her room, Andie got up and started to clear the table, sighing when he once again heard the same loud Asian rock music from earlier blasting through the house. What was he going to do with his daughter? Every day she seemed to pull farther and farther away from him and while he was trying as hard as he could, he didn’t know if he had it in him to try any harder.
Why did raising teenagers have to be so damn difficult?

“Angela? Wait… how did you know where I lived and how did you get here? You're supposed to be in London,” Dawn blurted out almost at once, eyes widened comically as she stared at Angel who was simply smiling at her with an amused look on her face.

“It’s actually pretty easy to find out where someone lives. All you need to do is hire the right person to do the job and be patient.”

“You hired someone to find me- what the hell? Are you some kind of crazed stalker or something?!”

Angel sighed as Dawn said this, running a hand through her blonde hair as she realized this was not going the way she planned at all and boy did she hate it when things didn’t go the way she wanted them too. “Dawnie, if you really felt that I was a stalker you would’ve never given me your phone number a few months ago, so obviously you trust me to some extent.”

“… and obviously I was wrong to trust you.”

“How so? I simply wanted to come see you after talking online for almost a year. I thought you were interested in meeting as well… and I must admit I haven’t been completely honest with you. However, you can trust me.”

“Angela, just go back to London. I can see it was a bad idea to ever give you my last name much less my phone number-”

“I lied about my name. It isn’t Angela.”

“… what?” Dawn asked, staring at her with a rather perplexed expression.

“My real name is Angel.”

“Why are you telling me this and what was the point of lying-”

“I lied because I didn’t want you to find out who I really was.”

“What the hell are you talking about?”

“Dawnie, I didn’t want you to find out like this, but I’m Angel Winters… you know, the famous actress from London?”

“Oh god,” was all Dawn was able to say.

“So… can I come in or are you going to keep me standing out here all day?”

“Yeah come in- no wait!” Aidan snapped, blocking Jason’s path by stepping in front of him. “Jason, what the hell are you doing here?!”

“I need a place to stay for a few weeks, Aidan, and I thought my favorite cousin would be willing to let me stay in his guest room.”

“Jason, don’t pull that crap. You know I’m going to let you stay because you're family, but what I want to know is why you need a place to stay. Last time I checked, you lived with your parents!”

“They threw me out.”

“Why would they do that?”

“Apparently I’ve been ungrateful and when they caught my shagging one of my boyfriends on their bed, I guess they just finally snapped.”

Groaning when he told him this, Aidan moved out of the way, shaking his head when Jason grinned at him as he closed the door behind him. This was not good. With Jason here, he wasn’t going to be getting any of his work done since his younger cousin could be quite a distraction and who knew what trouble he could get into! Ugh. Why did he have to be such a pushover when it came to family and friends?

“Hey Eri.”

“Hey Cam.”

“Aren’t you supposed to be home spending time with Charlie?”

“I was supposed to, but I just couldn’t stand being alone with her in the flat so I lied and said Jack needed me because he had no one to cover for me.”

“She bought that?”

“I didn’t stick around to see if she bought it. I just wanted to get the fuck out of there,” Eri muttered, lifting a brow when she watched Cam cast a glare towards Ryan, who just smiled back at him. “Oi, what’s going on between you two?”
“Ryan tried to kiss me earlier today while we were out on our non-date.”

“… and? You like him and he likes you. I don’t see the problem.”

“That is the problem!”

“Cam, you seriously need to reevaluate your love life.”

“At least I’m not still in love with my fiancé’s sister, who also happens to be my ex.”

“You little prick!” Eri hissed. “Don’t say something so bloody stupid! I am not still in love with Charlie. She’s my past and Nic is my future.”

“If that was true, you wouldn’t have been a wreck ever since you found out she was coming to visit.”

“She’s my ex, Cam. Of course I’m a nervous wreck.”

“That’s what you get for dating her brother.”

“Listen you fucking- oh wait a second, my mobile is ringing,” she said, grabbing her phone out of her bag, only glancing at it for a second before she flipped it open and brought it towards her ear. “Oi Angel! Did you get to Dawn’s and tell her?”

“Yea, I did.”

“So how’d it go?! Don’t fucking keep me in suspense!”

“She slammed the door in my face and told me to get my ass back to London.”

“Don’t worry though. I won’t give up that easily. My Dawnie is just playing hard to get.”

“Uh… well good luck, Angel,” Eri muttered, saying goodbye to her friend as she hung up the phone and glanced over at Cam. “Let’s just get to work, I’m sick of talking,” she grumbled and Cam didn’t protest one bit because he could tell by the look on Eri’s face that she was dead serious.
